Room 204 - Welcome to the Brethour Island Room

Room 204Brethour is one of a group of smaller private islands, a green jewel in the Gulf Island chain. It lies just east of the Tsehum Harbour and the town of Sidney, and is about 2.5 miles from the Canada/U.S. border that bisects the Strait of Georgia. Brethour is comprised of 46 acres and is roughly rectangular in shape, with several long fingers of land jutting into the sea on its north west side. The island’s dominant geographic feature is the ridge running down the middle, which at its highest point tops out 100 feet above sea level.

Its steep sides are cloaked with a mixed forest of Cedars, Gary Oak, Maples, Arbutus and Douglas fir. The northern end of Brethour has been cleared for pasturel and cultivated into gardens. Several deep, natural ponds provide water for irrigation and water for animals.

This privately owned island has numerous buildings, including one main 2,500 square foot residence, a guest cottage and a caretaker’s cottage. Outbuildings include a two-stall barn, a chicken coop and a building that houses the electrical generators. The property also features a boathouse and 60 foot dock. A perimeter road gives residents and guests access to Brethour’s numerous coves, beaches and bays.
